The author does a good job of pointing out the benefits. None of them would seem to have negative effects on diabetes, blood pressure, and cholesterol. A few of them I've never had, and frankly wouldn't know where to buy them.

My mother was full Italian and made this often, it's very delicious. Healthy? That's a different matter. One thing for sure, it may not be good for the body, but it's great for the soul. Right up there with cheesecake or pecan pie.
